25 Random Sunday Things

1. Filed our income taxes today.
2. Our refund is now on its way! Sweet.
3. We always file our taxes in February. I like to get it done and over with.
4. And, I can never fully understand why people wait until April to file.
5. Even the years I had to pay in, I did it early.
6. Again, I like to get it out of the way.
7. There's no state income tax in FL.
8. There are only 7 states that have no income tax.
9. The other 6 include: Alaska, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington and Wyoming.
10. The fact that there's no income tax here may lead some to believe it's cheaper to live here.
11. Not true.
12. Trust me, we make up the taxes in other ways, primarily through high property taxes.
13. Aside from taxes, I also graded some papers today.
14. Not a fun weekend activity, but a necessary one. For some reason, those students like to get almost instantaneous feedback, so I bust my ass to try and give it to 'em.
15. Although I do remind them that each time they write ONE essay, I have to read about 75 of them.
16. That makes them slightly more empathetic to my grading load.
17. Reading those essays made me sleepy though.
18. So I took a long nap.
19. Scooter snuggled me.
20. Then, I went for a 4 miler.
21. Finished it in 39:44.
22. Without Jerry, I certainly don't push myself as hard on the pace.
23. It was also pretty warm for the run. Only 71, but it was sunny, and my face felt like a hot beet when I got done.
24. I'm glad I wore my sunglasses.
25. Jerry's making Baked Potato Soup for dinner and it smells delicious.

I totally hear you on the papers. I have 111 students this year...and I feel like it's always a game of catch up (a marathon finish line is much closer). We are giving a prompt on Wednesday so I know what my february break is going to look like...

Oooh baked potato soup sounds delish. Can I have some?

Great job on the taxes, grading papers, and the run. You are one productive chick!

Nice list and good job on your 4 mile run.

We like to get our taxes done early too but the good ol' post office ate half of my W2. Now I have to wait for a copy to be sent to my office and then reissued to me.

WooHoo for no state income tax (WA), athlought you are certainly right - we pay it in other ways - 8.4% sales tax - that's DOUBLE what most pay plus rediculous property taxes to boot. It's total CRAP!

As a student let me just say - it takes waaaaaay longer to write one of those papers than it does to grade one - and hell yeah I want instantaneous feedback. What are teachers the only ones with lives that don't revolve around work/school? And if you don't want to grade them - don't assign them :).

Baked potatoe soup....MnnnMnnn Good! Lucky girl!

I always intend to get our taxes done early... but it never happens. Knowing we always owe money makes it easier to put it off. ;)

Enjoy dins!

Great job on the productive day!

We are still waiting on our tax software and the new computer to run it on... Usually Beer Geek has done at least the first run through by this point, but someone cough me cough, forgot to get him Turbo Tax.

I still haven't filed last years taxes. This makes me sound really irresponsible, but we always have a refund due to our RRSP contributions, so I wait until propterty taxes come in, then file and pay with property taxes. Still, I wish I was more on the ball like you!

That soup sounds yummy!

Yaaay Texas :-).

Sorry, I get a little giddy whenever I see something fun about my new place of residency :-).

I share your diligence in getting the taxes in -- but I'm usually the one to file around January 15 or whenever the w2's come in. I'm such a 1040EZ girl though so it's a little less cumbersome :-)

Great run momma!

I need to get my tax butt in gear.....my husband and I are holding our breath.....we might have to pay. :(

I had baked potato soup too Sunday! Delicious.

I so wish we would do our taxes early. We are those April people, and I don't know why, we just can't seem to ever get them done early.

The baked potato soup sounds fabulous! I like doing my taxes early too. I rather get it done and over with rather than thinking about it for weeks/months.

I'm the same way about taxes.. I'd rather just have it done up front. Only time I didn't was when I was scrounging for some dough to pay.

New Hampshire also has no income tax... or sales tax.

Great post. TN also no state income tax.

I did my taxes already too. In fact, I got my state return back last week. Cheers to government-funded drinking funds.

I worked on my taxes this weekend too. I think I would take the state income tax we have here in GA over the property and gasoline taxes back in FL any day

We always file early too. Jon was supposed to do ours on Sunday, but I had the computer tied up. I'm guessing that pushes us back to next weekend. I *heart* refunds!

You had a busy day.

Like you, I like to get it over with the income tax in early February as always. I am 95% done. NJ has the highest property tax in the nation! (so is Conn, NY and Calif).

I am so jealous that your taxes are done! I am missing a W2 still. :<(

Baked potato soup? Do you know how many a meal at Tony Roma's has started with that soup? Good memories.
