For most runners, this time of year means pulling out the running tights, jackets, hats and gloves and braving the wintry cold to get runs done outside. But for me? It still means running in heat.
3 days before Christmas, and yesterday I went for a 5 miler in the afternoon. It was 82 degrees out. Surprisingly, in the shade, it wasn't bad at all, but the last mile of my 5 mile route had zero shade, and the timing meant that the sun was right in my face the entire time. I slugged through it, but when I got home, I was BEET red!
After a cool shower, I laid down on the bed with the fan on for a few minutes so I could cool off.
Is it weird to have winter envy? Because I do, especially this time of year when it's ironic to see snowmen everywhere, but no snow. (Norah is very into "Frosty the Snowman" this year, which is funny since she's never even seen snow.) I know most would love a warm run at this point in the calendar year, so tell ya what, why don't we trade for a week or so?
I think a week of winter would be all I'd need to feel like I gotten my share of it.

I get winter envy every year. We should get at least two weeks of ultra cold running and a week of too damn cold to do anything. Then we can go back to our regularly scheduled weather.
Ours winters get tough sometimes, but I would not be enjoying anything near 80 degrees this time of year!
(ask me again in February)
Going back to MN this year for the holiday? That will get your winter fix in. Have a great Christmas Jess!
And yes, I'm ready for some winter like conditions here in NC too. It's been in the 60's, not the 80's here. But that's still too warm.
It's winter here now!
Enjoy your Christmas with your beautiful children. I'm sure it will be a lot of fun!.
We don't usually get real winter until late January/February, but it's generally cold by now. This year, the first day of winter sported 60 degrees. That's plenty warm for me LOL.
82 would be heaven for me right now! We don't have snow but you know it's only a matter of time. Have fun with your Sandmen, since you don't have snow......
This is what happens to me every year: it stays warm here longer than I think and I want to run in the cold and then it actually gets cold and I am too much of a wimp to run outside! I need to live somewhere where it's 60 degrees year round.
I don't blame you for having winter running envy- it seems you rarely get reprieve from the heat.
Right now it's the perfect temperature and conditions for running in my city. I am not running right now but if I was it would be amazing!
Now that it's winter here (MN), my idea of "ideal running weather" has morphed from 50 and drizzle, down to about 35 and overcast (no wind, please). Perfect weather for a light merino long sleeve shirt, shorts, and light gloves (just for the warmup!). But as long as there's no ice on the roads, I'll take anything cold, really -- at least down to single digits!
I cannot even imagine running in 82 right now. Or ever, really.
We are only in the 40's here and NO snow this Christmas forecasted. I would send snow to you for Norah, but we have none to send.
Nice job on the 5.
that's one thing I definitely miss when visiting warmer climates on the holidays. Glad you are out and running!
Winter hasn't really hit here yet either, but 80's in December is crazy! Hopefully, the temps will drop a bit for you. Great job getting the 5 miler done.
I go to Sarasota every January for 10 days, so I'm so excited to leave this 40 degrees to come to the warmth. You're more than welcome to come to New Mexico!
I'm with you - 1 week of winter weather would be perfect! I live in SoFla as well and just a tad less humidity would be awesome!!!
