Trying to Beat the Heat

Yesterday, I post-poned my run until evening hoping for slightly cooler temps (it got up to 104 yesterday afternoon!). And the one thing I dislike about running in the evening is figuring out the timing of dinner. It's a dilemma: Either eat way early and feel as though you should be taking advantage of early bird specials, or eat way late. Neither is appealing timing, but generally, I go with the earlier option.

So, we had our early dinner and I went for a run around 7:30 pm. It was still an inferno out there, but the humidity was a bit more manageable, so I guess that's a point in favor of evening running. I did 3 miles in just under 30 minutes, but it was tough work eeking out 9:50 miles. The heat just zaps me!

Therefore, as I was getting ready for bed last night, I declared that I would get up at o'dark thirty this morning in order to beat the heat and get it done early in the day. Well, 5 am rolled around this morning and that plan went out the window since I opted for more sleep instead.

Not wanting to miss a run entirely today (we're going out for dinner tonight, so I don't think I would do it this evening), but not wanting to expose Norah to 95 degree temps at 8 am, I decided for some middle ground: A quick 2 miler on a path that is entirely shaded. The shade helped, but 95 degrees + pushing the stroller? That equals a sweaty, hot Jess!

You are such a trooper!
That heat is bad news bears! Have you ever thought of buying a dreadmill to have handy?

Great job getting out there and running in the heat and humidity. I mistakenly checked the heat index after my run the other day....103! Time to back to Minnesota ;)

Have a wonderful time at dinner!! I escape the heat by going to the gym and running on the treadmill then I try to force myself to run outside early on Saturday/Sunday.

The heat can be so draining, you have me major respect for dealing with the humidity!

I usually opt to eat later. I don't like waiting around to digest. Stupid food! Why do we even need it? Cheers!

I can't imagine running in a sauna like that. You're hardcore, girl.

Good decision to keep it short and in the shade!

Good for you for getting out there in the heat! Sounds like you need to hop in the pool after runs like that.

I love the messy Norah pics from your last post - so cute!

Yeah this whole heat wave thing is for the birds. My Scandinavian ass can't handle this crap! Even our pool is getting on the warm side! That probably explains my whopping 5 miles I've racked up so far :)

I have the dinner delimma too. I hate eating late. But if I workout after work, then I'm not eating until 8:30 pm minimum. Which is super bad (not like the movie) because I go to bed at like 9:30 pm. Ahhhhhhh, what to do?

I don't know how you even run in that heat. yowsas! It would be like running in a Bikram yoga room.

I'm so impressed that you run in that weather AND pushing the stroller!! You rock!! Did you ever try the gym? A friend of mine goes to a gym with daycare :)

Good job getting some miles in. I've been complaining about the heat up here and it's only in the high 80s/low 90s and I'm not pushing a stroller.

I will now not complain about the heat after reading your post. YUCK! I have to get used to this for my next race and time is not working on my side.

Time to move to dry heat of the SW.
