Case of the Mondays

Today, I dropped Norah off at daycare, then got in my car, turned the key and...nothing. Wha??!! I had just driven from home to daycare and there hadn't been a single hesitation when the car started, but now, as I sat in the daycare parking lot, nuthin. Absolutely nuthin.

So, I called trusty Ryan, who brought along trusty Brian, and the two of them took a look and determined it was the battery -- dead as a doornail. We tried jumping it and...still nuthin. So, it ended up that Brian drove me to the auto parts store where I purchased a new car battery and he installed it.

It was actually a problem that was solved fairly easily, quickly and cheaply, but because of the timing of it, I had already called ahead and cancelled my afternoon classes and the administrative staff had already posted in my classrooms that my classes would be cancelled, so even though I would've made my later class, I decided to just leave it cancelled. Otherwise, if I had shown up, I would have run into difficulty holding students accountable for the material if they had seen the signs earlier and not come. So, it felt like a flustered, discombobulated afternoon.

But, the bright side was that I got to pick Jerry up from the airport and then we both went back to daycare to get Norah and then head home. And since Jerry's now home, that meant I got to go for a short run -- so I went out for a 3 miler before the sun set and it felt good. Just getting that run in made me feel as though something got accomplished today!

I'm thankful that the battery died where it did and when it did and with help nearby instead of all the myriad other places that it could've happened, but it still sucked because it threw off the day, and it made my afternoon feel like a waste. Oh well, now I have a new battery! And, Jerry's home!

Oh, and we gave Norah her first taste of rice cereal this evening. She was not impressed ;)

Ryan said Miller talked all day about Daddy's truck since he saw you guys messing around and Ryan's truck come and go. Nothing gets by that kid!

I am also glad it happened when it did, where it did, rather than some late night after night class. Glad the boys got you fixed up. That's what our friends husbands are for :)

Welcome back Jer-Bear. You were missed.

That sucks about your car, but you were lucky to have been in a safe place when it happened. The rice cereal is not too exciting for the babies the first time around it takes a bit getting used to. After the third time Eli started to really like it. Now daycare gives him fruit along with it and we don't do that at home and he still takes it just fine.

I love my daycare for Eli but they do give him foods that other babies get. Like I told them I tried out bananas once and now he is getting fruit with cereal...I take it with a grain of salt, thank god Eli doesn't seem allergic to anything as of yet.

Crazy cars! At least you had the boys nearby to help.

And think of how excited your students were to get an unexpected day off. :)

I'm glad it was all resolved without too many hassles. Could have been a lot worse, that's for sure. Nice job on the 3-miler.

I wish car batteries would give some sort of warning. At least it happened at a relatively better time than it could've been. Glad the rest of the day got better!

Glad it happened where it did. Mine always seem to die in my driveway, thank goodness.

And that rice cereal is nasty. I wouldn't be impressed either. ;o)

Hopefully Norah likes the rice cereal better the second time around!

How funny is the fact that you have all this anticipation about giving them rice cereal, and it generally tends to be an anti-climactic moment. We didnt get a real good solid food moment until peas ;)

Baby's expressions when they first try food are priceless! That sucks about the car, but good that it was in a safe place and you had help. Stuff like that throws me into a tizzy. Especially on a Monday. Glad things weren't too bad.

Rice cereal is not impressive. Norah obviously has taste. I guess the question is which one of you did she get it from?

It's all that cold Florida weather taking a toll on car batteries! You probably need the heavy duty type they use in Alaska! Ha, glad it was fixed with minimal effort and time.

Sounds like you ended the day on several high notes! The battery in our SUV goes out every winter. POS...

I'm glad you didn't go back and try to "un-do" the cancelation of your classes :) As a former college student, I LOVED canceld classes, it really made your day! LOL!
Sorry to hear about the car, glad your safe and that Jerry made it back safe, too!
