Au Revoir RW

For 5 years, I've been subscribing to Runner's World. But as of February 2010, I will no longer open up my mailbox once a month and discover a new issue. That's right. I did not renew my subscription.

For a long time now, I've felt that the magazine has little to offer me: The articles are all virtually the same, and the majority of their articles can be found and read for free on their website. But, I have held onto the subscription for the past few years in order to get the log book, which has been where I record my mileage for the past 2 years. However, Publix (local supermarket) sent me a 2010 log book because of my registration in the Miami HM, so I no longer need the RW log. So that was my last reason for holding onto the subscription.

So, I will now be $25 richer each year. What should I do with my extra moola?

Looks like a race entry fee to me!

I agree! Race entry fee it is! That's gonna be tough...there's nothing quite the same as opening the mailbox to find a fresh crisp magazine waiting for your reading...

I just got a renewal letter in the mail.... I haven't read a lot of my past magazines, so I think I might skip it as well... haven't decided yet!

Roll the $25 over toward a subscription to "Marathon & Beyond". Just sayin...

Ohhh that is a half a pair of shoes. I have to agree. I am not renewing my subscription either....there hasn't been much to hold my attention.

I also did not renew my RW account recently, after YEARS of being an avid reader. For the exact same reasons as you. I kind of miss it. But not enough to have purchased one single issue in the store.

The same thing happened to me last month with Women's Health (although I only had a year subscription.) The articles are all the same.

Agree with everyone else, entry fee!

I guess if I were you I would spend it on something to read whilst taking a dump. Since you won't have RW anymore

Don't buy Women's running. Just started a subscription to that one and it took me even less time to read than RW.

I was thinking the same thing last year. When I got pregnant, I stopped reading it even though Jeremy still gets it.

But when we flew to Florida, all I had on the plane was RW so I read it and realized how much I missed reading it. Maybe because I just miss running so much.

For $25 you can just buy the few issues a year that really catch your attention. Oh, or you can go buy something cool from your local running store!

I didn't renew mine, either. I got irritated when the renewal cost more than a brand new subscription. I figure if I miss it that much I'll just pay the cheaper amount and resubscribe!

My last issue came in December. It just wasn't worth the renewal fee anymore. Maybe you can put it in the "New Working Garmin" savings fund?

Cash it in for 25 $1 bills and 'make it rain'! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee Scooter would love that.

I vote for Marathon and Beyond too. As a writer I think that you'd like it. Some of their stories are LONG (like 15 pages long).

Subscribe to Oxygen magazine....my favorite!

I'm with you on the RW content. I usually subscribe for two years, then take a few years off.

I've been 50/50 on renewing, too. This may be my tipping point. You know, since the cool kids aren't re-upping. :)

Wow, great minds think alike........... I'm keeping mine for a few more months.

Of course everyone will say enter a race but I think so nice new gear is in order. You'll have it far longer than the magazine!

I used to be really into magazines and had tons of subscriptions but I found that after a couple years nothing felt fresh. All the articles sounded like something I'd read before and I stopped looking forward to reading everything in the them. I have not renewed most of them, but we still get RW for now. I didn't realize that you could read most of the articles online though so that's good to know!

I ditched Runner's World too. After they sent out the unwanted calendar to me along with a $22 bill, that was it.

$25 sounds like a race fee to me!

I subscribed to RW for one year and found the exact same thing. It's great to pick up at the airport or when there's a bunch of extra copies lying around the office (oh working in advertising). Otherwise, I don't even bother.
