Winter Misery One Miler

This morning, I got up early in order to complete my entry for Running Laur's virtual 1 miler. I actually had a planned 3 miler, but the RD is flexible and allowed those of us with scheduled runs to just use our fastest mile for our entry.

At 5:30 am, it was 50 degrees here in South Florida, which I know for many of you this time of year sounds like swimsuit weather, but for FL, that's about as wintery as it gets. In preparation for the run, I had set out my running clothes last night and had laid out tights and a long sleeve shirt, and admittedly, I also dug out a hat -- just in case. But this morning, I decided that the hat would be too much and would probably make me hot, so I just stuck with the shirt and tights. And I'm glad I had them because I was pretty cold setting out.

Of course, I quickly warmed up and had a nice run, but it was by no means race worthy. I can get runs done at that god awful hour, but I can't seem to pick up the pace, so my overall time for the 3 miles was 32:48 and my fastest mile was 10:49. Not very impressive, but I'll take it. An unimpressive run is better than no run at all.

I'm sorry, but I totally LOL'd at your title. I was running on ice today and you had 50s... ;o) I'm not fast in the morning either. Guess that's why I have such a hard time with races.

50 degrees and tights? Oh my, I guess all the Minnesota has finally been purged.

Oh, to be you! I bet it was nice to wear some of those running clothes that you rarely get to use.

Glad you got your miles in.

I WISH I could get myself out of bed at that hour to get my workout in, good for you!! I am not fast so a 10:49 mile sounds good to me :-)

I think I need to move to South FL

Nice job on your 3 miles. What's been the toughest thing about post-preggo running for you? You ran almost until the end of your pregnancy right? I'm 17 weeks and still running but it's just soooo slow and not all that comfortable sometimes already so I'm not sure how long I'll make it.

Thanks for doing the mile! We had almost the same weather for the run, just at other ends of the country!

I thought about getting up early this morning but I stayed up to watch the damn Vikes lose last night so no early up for me.

It's tough to get fast times so early in the a.m. I don't think the mind or body is quite awake yet.

Oh yeah, sprinting that early in the AM is tough. I say kudos for getting the job done either way!

It was cold here last week in AZ too, but I hesitate to tell people that b/c "cold" is not that "cold" compared to what some people face this time of year.

Good job at getting it done- YAY! My last 3 runs were all done m-u-c-h slower than 10:49/mi, so I think you're doing pretty well! I plan to do my 1 miler tomorrow.

Nice job! I think 50's is perfect running weather, but I probably would pull out my light weight tights too.
