Spring Fresh!

About a tenth of a mile into my 3 miler last night, I felt a strange bunching of fabric in my shorts. At first I thought it was the lining of the shorts, but that seemed odd since I've never had such a thing happen. Then, I figured maybe the shell of the shorts had just twisted around weird, but that wasn't it because it was really a bunching of material inside the short.

So, as I ran, I reached in my shorts (that phrase right there should yield some interesting site meter results), and discovered a dryer sheet wadded in there. Not wanting to litter, I held onto the sheet for the next 2 and 1/2 miles until I passed a bus stop where I could throw it away in the garbage can.

Now, in many ways, this doesn't seem all that strange -- I mean, dryer sheets get caught in the fabric of clothes all the time, and I'm sure we've all discovered ourselves wearing one at some point or another -- but in all my running memory, I could not think of a single instance in which this had previously happened. So, as I ran, carrying that dryer sheet in one hand, I couldn't help but kinda giggle to myself every so often. Cuz, c'mon, how many of us find ourselves running with a dryer sheet? Any of you?

  1. You're such a good environmentalist! :o)

I've never found dryer sheets in my running clothes, but I have gone to work with a trouser sock stuck in the leg of my pants. Same sort of "what is that" feeling for half the day.

That would have been a new one for me. At least you figured out before the run was over.

  6. This has totally happened to me but in a pair of running tights!! I looked down mid-run and was really disturbed to see this little wad of something on my thigh. I thought it was a rat or a giant spider (overactive imagination much?) and practically dropped my pants in the middle of my run.

    You are not alone hahaha!

  8. that lining in running shorts is a perfect catch for dryer sheets. I am surprised it doesn't happen more often!

This has never happened to me, but doesn't mean it never will. LOL.

  12. I think I would have tossed it on the side of the road. Maybe...depends on my eco friendly state of mind and oncoming traffic.

  13. LOL, definitely can't say I've had that happen. You were probably the best smelling runner out there!

  14. I agree with Erin. I totally would've tossed that sheet on the side of the road. Let's just say that I'm not the "greenest" of runners!

    Too funny!

  15. Oh yeah...I find dryer sheets in my clothes all the time, but I don't think I've ever found one in my running shorts. I LOVE that you reached in to fetch it out...that must have been a sight (pregger woman with hand down shorts...hahahahah)

  16. Glad you held onto the dryer sheet til you reached a garbage can. I get mad at running buddies when they throw gel wrappers on the ground.

Can't say I've ever found a dryer sheet in anything (but thats becaues most of my clothes can't be washed with fabric softner..)

  17. I've had those dryer sheets fall out of my gym bag in the locker room on numerous occasions. I've reached in my shorts during a run to readjust myself and wonder what passerby's think as they see me.

  19. Dryer Sheets, Underwear, & Socks!

Just kidding, but wouldn't that be funny? You would run and just discover random shiz all jammed into your shorts.

  21. You are such a riot!

No, no dryer sheets in my running shorts, I don't use the dryer for any of my running "stuff".

    However, other items...well, YES!!

  22. You should have left it where the dryer sheet where it was. Then you wouldn't have had to wash your shorts because they'd still be so fresh and so clean, clean.

  26. Dryer sheet, no. Spare sock stuck to the inside of my running pants? Only once or twice :o)

I love how you have a story for just about every run.

  27. Ha ha! This just gave me a very funny picture in my head.

I stopped suign the dryer on my running clothes a while back. I felt the dryer was damaging the clothes so I resorted to line drying. No dryer sheets needed!
