Long Run: Fail

I had a 13 miler scheduled for this weekend, but because I just wasn't "feeling it" yesterday, I post-poned it for today. So, this morning I set out and still "wasn't feeling it." A few miles in, it started to sprinkle, which wasn't so bad because it was pretty hot and very humid, but then the sprinkle became an actual rain and my initial lethargy turned into outright dislike for the run, so I threw in the towel and ran home. So, instead of 13 miles, I only logged 7.

Once I got home, it really started pouring, so I didn't feel as bad about ditching the effort, but I still have the lingering guilt that ensues when a run doesn't go as planned. I know I shouldn't beat myself up for giving in and cutting it nearly in half; however, since I have been running so consistently lately and I haven't missed or cut a run short since starting my HM training, I am feeling the inevitable shame over the suck-factor on this one.

Oh well. I can't be awesome all the time.

Besides, I don't have time to dwell: I must now shift my energy toward the afternoon's football: Go Vikes! The stupid Cowboys, with their pretty-boy Romo, are going down!

Pretty-boy Romo and Diva Favre. Sounds like a beauty contest to me...

It happens. At least you got 7 in, that's still a long run.

I have absolutely no interest in football. Don't hate me!

  4. GO VIKES!! Nice effort on trying to get most of the run. Better than nothing.

  5. At least you got over half the run done. In the grand scheme of training this one won't be that big of a deal.

Don't feel bad - running in the rain is brutal and I can only do ~5km in the rain. I'm so impressed with how you've upped your mileage so much since your pregnancy already, don't beat yourself up!

  7. We all have those runs that don't quite happen. But 7! That's 7 more than I've done today!

  9. I loved seeing the stupid Cowboys go down (I'm a Giants fan so I HATE them.)

A couple of weeks ago I turned my 13 into an 8 because the wind was SO BAD. Sometimes you just have to listen to your mind and body and adjust.

  14. A bit of suck-factor every now and then never hurt anyone. 7 miles is still a decent run and more than twice what I ran today!

  15. I still have 20 on my schedule. It's been pouring down rain all day. 28 degrees. Everyone thinks I should post-pone it aka no one wants to kiddo sit for me. Ugghhh! I am hoping I can get 15 on the treadmill after the kiddos go to bed so I don't fall farther behind my training. 7 weeks to race day! Aggghhh.

I am glad you got in 7 miles. That is how I look at it...something is always better than nothing.

  16. You must be pleased with the football game. My husband certainly was. Don't worry about your run. If you were doing it all the time it would be one thing but no biggie when it is an occasional thing.

Although the 13 miles didn't happen, you got 7 in. Forget about the other 6. There will be other long runs in your future. :)

  21. Ok, Im feeling really guilty that you were even ATTEMPTING 13 for Miami. I only did 10. So you beat me in pure dedication alone! Now I'm worried if 10 was enough ...

  22. I'm still the Anti-Farve but the Vikes did kick some butt.

  23. I think it is inevitable that at least one run be cut or shortened during a training cycle, just the way it goes.

No worries! Seven is still good and you have been running strong. You'll make the mileage up.
