Moment of Truth Tuesday

Sparked by P.O.M.'s weight loss challenge, I decided to join her endeavor to lose a few pounds. Now, normally, I'm not much for watching my weight too closely. Don't get me wrong -- I do weigh myself regularly and then curse myself for eating ALL of a Chipotle burrito, but most of the time, I just shrug it off with an "eh" and continue about my business. The fact of the matter is that I'm pretty comfortable with where I'm at, weight-wise.

However, even though I'm not much for the whole diet thing, I figured: who couldn't afford to lose a few extra pounds? Perhaps it will help me fit better in a pair of jeans, or perhaps I can fit back into those black pants I have that have become rather *tight* as of late. So, I am following P.O.M.'s criteria and doing the following to help motivate me:
  • Posting my weight as of now
  • Posting my goal weight
  • Posting my reward if I achieve said goal by February of 2008

So, here they are:

  • Current weight: 118
  • Goal weight: 113
  • Prize? An hour long massage

Weight will be posted on "Moment of Truth Mondays" and you can either track my progress (or lack of progress) or join in the good times by posting your own "Moment of Truth" on Mondays.

So...this probably means less Halloween candy, huh?

  4. You will have no problem losing 5 lbs by then even with the holidays. I lost 14 without much exercise by just changing my eating habits. If you keep up the normal exercise and change a few things, you will be there in no time at all. :)

  13. YOu look fabulous, I don't know why you would want to lose even 5 lbs. Be careful, dieting can make you overweight. I am not kidding.

  14. I agree that you look great and don't need to lose weight! You look a LOT smaller than 118. (As a fellow shorty...I'm probably a better judge than most of the people on here. :) Good luck!

  20. Okay, you've received suitable grief for the 118 lbs thing. I weighed that in about 5th grade, probably, so you can consider you weigh similar to a lanky 5th grade boy.

That goal, though seemingly easy to those of us taller, can be significant to those in lower altitudes. The easiest motivator? Eat less, more often: 5-6 meals a day is great, and balance the protein/carb thing while keeping fat in check. Fat is less absorbed in the AM, but oatmeal (or oaty food) in the AM can set your day up very well.

In addition, low intensity exercise pre-breakfast and a supplemental exercise later in the day will help keep your metabolism screaming all day. Soon, you will be making 3 UPS deliveries (toilet visits) per day!

  21. 5 lbs. in three months is a good goal. You gotta live life too.(by live life I mean drink beer and eat food). Although you let me know the next time the hubby makes pot pies, I will be more than happy to eat your portion. You know, to help with the diet.

  22. It's not possible to only eat part of a Chipotle burrito. Those things are so good.

  27. 5 lbs?! Well, you don't have much to start with anyway, compared to the rest of us. OK, compared to me. Good luck!

  28. You know, it's probably not a bad idea to pay a bit of attention to your weight since you're approaching 30. I hate to be the voice of doom and gloom, but EVERY single female friend of mine (and me, too) gained between 7 and 10 pounds around age 30 (for me, it was right after I turned 31). Didn't matter what our body types were to begin with -- even the skinny minnies. And then it happened again after 35. Fun times, those thirties are!

  30. So jealous. 5lbs... you're tiny, girl! Anyway, I think it's a great goal and now because of you, POM, and the others - I may have to join in. I NEED to loose weight in order to want to get out of bed in the mornings and you may give me the motivation I need.
